Electives

At Dixons Broadgreen Academy, our electives programme for Years 7 to 9 is designed to allow students to discover new interests, develop new skills and uncover hidden talents beyond the traditional curriculum offer. Across the three cycles of each academic year, students select a new elective, giving them the chance to explore a variety of interests and skills.

Electives are about:

  • Mastery: Enough time to genuinely develop skills at something new.
  • Autonomy: You choose the electives you follow.
  • Purpose: Electives connect to careers, passions and the wider world.
  • Joy Factor: Time each week that's simply about enjoying yourself.
  • Broadening experiences: Trying things you'd never normally come across.

Our electives programme is deliberately broad and diverse, offering students opportunities to explore cultural, artistic, sporting, musical and academic interests beyond the the traditional classroom.

Each elective session provides exciting opportunities for students to explore their interests, develop their talents and build confidence. These enriching experiences support personal development and helps every student to thrive and develop their cultural capital both inside and outside the classroom.
